We have created the logo and identity for the Mars Sustainable Cocoa Initiative

Through its Sustainable Cocoa Initiative, Mars Chocolate invests tens of millions of dollars annually in cocoa-focused agricultural research, technology transfer programs to increase yields and income for farmers in Africa and Asia, and certification programs to encourage more favorable conditions for farmers in our supply chain.  Our guiding principle is to put ‘Farmers First,’ by prioritizing activities through which farmers will achieve higher yields and larger incomes that will in turn support broader social development and better environmental protection.

The logo is based on the image of two hands nurturing a mound of earth and a seedling (commonly used to represent sustainability), with a twist, using the negative space to create a cocoa pod. The colors represent the colors of the pods when they are harvested. The priority of the initiative is to put ‘farmers first’ and the use of the hands in the identity really helps it appeal to these communities as well as government organizations.

We have been working closely with Mars for the last year and are continuing to apply this identity across all of their printed collateral, signage, internal presentations and websites. More to come soon.
